Blog Re-Launch

Posted by

It’s been almost eight months since I’ve posted a new blog post. It wasn’t my intention to just disappear, but as I’ve come to find out, unforeseen things happen in life. In this post, I’ll briefly explain the long hiatus, discuss plans for the future of the blog, and provide a sample of some of the topics I’ll be working on in the near future.

The Straw That Broke The Camel’s Back

Rewind back to August 2021. Two things happened. The first, was the explosion of my Microsoft Flight Simulator YouTube channel. I had a video go semi-viral in July that resulted in a huge increase in subscribers and views. It made logical sense to redirect more of my time to it, since it started providing me with some side revenue. I still intended on blogging about once a month at the time.

But then, something else unexpected happened: I developed an ear disorder following my vaccination that manifests itself in the form of tinnitus (ear ringing) that made it difficult to concentrate and focus, and affected my motivation not only for this blog but for everything. I’ll write more about this in a future post.

The truth is though, I was tired of the tech scene well before my non-planned break happened. It was in part because I had been writing two posts a month for years and needed a break. It didn’t help I was feeling a bit disillusioned with how some posts became popular with lots of engagement while others didn’t. (Hint: it isn’t always the best content that makes it big.)

In the face of all this, the gaming channel became my main creative outlet. And the time away did me a lot of good. I’m ready to get going again, with a fresh outlook on the dev world.

Blog & Vlog Goals

My goal is to get back to one blog post a month. I might not achieve that out of the box, but it’s what I’ll be striving for.

I’d started experimenting with video content back in the summer of 2021. Although I do want to explore that some more, I’ve put it on pause since I already produce a lot of video content with my Flight Sim channel and I want to exercise a different muscle through the blog.

The focus for the next year of blog content will continue to be on the topics I enjoy the most in development, including cloud, DevOps, and software architecture. I continue to work extensively in the .NET and the articles will continue to be based on C# code examples, where applicable.

Content I’m Working On

Here are some topics that I’m brainstorming into articles at the moment:

  • Azure DevOps Best Practices
  • App Configuration Pro/Cons
  • AKS Pro/Cons
  • Azure Container Registry Best Practices
  • Application configuration when using Docker containers

Hopefully you’ll be get some value from those articles and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you.

Marc.
